The 37-key velocity sensitive Korg microKORG XL adds Korg's 8-voice Multi Modelling Technology sound engine from the Radias and R3 synthesizers and dual KAOSS dynamic effects processors to the small footprint, mini-keys, battery powered portable microKORG synth.

Korg microKORG XL 128-sound 8-voice MMT synth engine features traditional analogue waveforms plus seven algorithms for vintage keyboards and strings. Cross-modulation, unison stacking and Variable Phase Modulatioin create sounds which would be impossible for a PCM synthesizer. Dual multi-mode filters, drive / waveshaping circuit create distintive distorted sounds. Dual 1/4-inch inputs allow you to use any audio source as the waveform. 17-effects derived from Korg's KAOSS dynamic effects processors are included in the microKORG XL: reverbs, choruses, decimation, distortion, grain shift, delays, and flanger. Two effects can be applied simultaneously. Delay effects can be synchronized to a MIDI clock. Virtual Patching allows synthesis parameters to be modulated by effects.

The Korg microKORG XL 16-band sound-bending vocoder adds vocal characteristics to any sound via the included gooseneck microphone, or use the 1/4-inch stereo audio inputs. A synch-able 6-pattern step arpeggiator features six presets: Up, Down, Alt1, Alt2, Random, and Trigger.

The Korg microKORG XL can act as a MIDI controller via a USB port. Soft synths can be controlled by three real-time front panel knobs which transmit MIDI messages. USB also provies acces to the dedicated Editor Librarian.

The clean, uncluttered user interface on the Korg microKORG XL features Volume, Tempo, genre and category Program select, Real-Time assign, edit menu selector knobs, pitch and modulation wheels, 2-position Bank, Octave Up and Down 2-position timbre select, Arp On/Off, Vocoder On/Off, Write, Exit/Shifta switches, and large backlit LCD screen.
